What is Wikiseum
Wikiseum lets you read Wikipedia as if walking through a museum: every article gets its own room with a fitting frame, backdrop and soft sound. You need no account and no data about you is collected.
Where the content comes from
Text: live from Wikipedia, under CC BY-SA 4.0. Each article shows its source, version, date and a link to its edit history. The text is tidied for display, its content is not changed.
Images: from Wikimedia Commons. Each image shows its author and licence, with a link to the original.
Data: from Wikidata (CC0), to choose the right frame and sound for a subject.
The illustrations
The frames, backdrops and other atmospheric images of Wikiseum were made with the help of AI image generation. They are atmosphere: they show how a subject can feel, not what it actually looked like. Photos and pictures that belong to an article always come from Wikimedia Commons.
Sound
The background music is “Ethereal Generative Piano in a Slowly Evolving Meditative Soundscape” by bassimat (Freesound), released under CC0 1.0 (public domain). Sound is off by default. Short sounds belonging to an article, such as an animal’s call or a speech, come from Wikimedia Commons; the author and licence are shown while it plays.
Typefaces
Cormorant Garamond, Source Sans 3, Source Serif 4 and Literata, under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
